Market Structure
Electric vehicle charging services in Turkey are licensed by EPDK (Energy Market Regulatory Authority). By end-2024, the number of operators holding an active licence reached 179 — an 180% increase from the 47 operators recorded in 2022.
Connector Distribution
The dominant connector types in the Turkish market are:
- Type 2 AC: The most widespread format for home and workplace charging. Offered by the vast majority of operators.
- CCS2 DC: The fast-charging network standard, rapidly expanding along motorway corridors.
- CHAdeMO: Still active for Nissan Leaf and some Mitsubishi models, but new deployments are declining.
- GB/T: As Chinese-origin vehicles increase, some operators have started offering this connector.
OCPP Compliance
According to KolayCharge data, 71% of licensed operators run OCPP 1.6J, 23% have migrated to OCPP 2.0.1, and the remaining 6% are smaller operators using proprietary protocols.
Conclusion
As Turkey positions itself in the CCS2 and OCPP 2.0.1 ecosystem, CHAdeMO's influence is waning and GB/T remains a niche segment. A new EPDK regulation expected in 2025 is anticipated to mandate OCPP 2.0.1 and ISO 15118 for all new installations.
